After more than five months out, Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo rejoined the squad this week for the UEFA Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

The Uruguay international suffered a thigh injury, specifically a torn hamstring tendon in his right leg, during the Copa America clash against Brazil in July and required surgery.

Araujo celebrates his return

Since then, he has been working on his recovery with the goal of returning as quickly as possible. After training with the squad for the past few weeks, Tuesday marked Araujo’s return day to the matchday squad.

Following his inclusion in the squad for the Dortmund match, Araujo celebrated his return with a video on social media.

In his post, the Uruguayan highlighted his progress and the work he has done in recent months, sending a motivational message: “I’m back” wearing this season’s Blaugrana shirt.

Will Araujo play tomorrow?

Although Flick named Araujo in the matchday squad, it remains to be seen whether the centre-back will make his official return to the pitch.

Asked about Barcelona’s second captain’s chances of featuring at Signal Iduna Park tomorrow, the coach said:

“We will see tomorrow if he plays. It’s a joy that he’s back. He has a lot of strength and motivates his teammates a lot. The coach too. I like his winning attitude. The plan is for him to play, but I can’t say how well yet.
