According to a recent report from SPORT, it has emerged that Barcelona are “very close” to finalizing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.
The 28-year-old defender’s contract will expire at the end of the season and he will be available on a free transfer.
Interestingly, Barcelona appear to have decided to bring him in, with Deco, the club’s sporting director, recently traveling to Germany to meet Tah’s close associates.
The move comes after it was revealed that the player himself was keen to join the Blaugrana and had lobbied for the opportunity.
Barcelona leads the race
While Bayern Munich made a tempting financial offer to Tah, the player showed a clear preference for Barcelona.
In fact, he is willing to forgo some of the lucrative financial terms offered by Bayern in order to realize his dream of playing at the Camp Nou.
Tah expressed to Deco that he is ready to make sacrifices, provided that Barcelona act and commit to bringing him in during the first months of 2025.
Barcelona are impressed with his determination to join the club and although he was not initially a priority for the club’s sporting management, Tah has worked hard to establish himself.
Barcelona are impressed
His recent actions, including expressing his desire to play for Barcelona, have brought him closer to a potential signing.
With a strong link to Hansi Flick, it seems Tah’s next move is likely to be to Barcelona rather than any other club.
Meanwhile, despite keen interest from Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen are not ready to give up on retaining Tah. The Bundesliga club is still making significant efforts to convince the defender to extend his contract.
However, it appears Tah is already considering a future away from Leverkusen, with Barcelona emerging as his preferred destination for the next chapter of his career.
