Derry City have signed Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson, the League of Ireland Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday morning.
The 33-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the Candystripes, with the option of a second.
The former Newcastle United player has been capped 57 times by Northern Ireland and made his last appearance in their 2-0 win over San Marino in May 2023.
Originally from Derry, Ferguson can play at both left-back and left wing.
He spent the last few seasons at Rotherham United and left the club following their relegation to League One at the end of his contract this summer.
“Nice to come home”
The former Millwall player has scored two international goals, having played for Northern Ireland at U21, U19 and U17 level.
His final season with Rotherham was marred by injuries.
“I’m delighted to be coming home and once I spoke with Tiernan and heard his plans for the club it was an easy decision,” Ferguson told the Derry City FC website.
“I have been training hard after a frustrating last season and I feel very strong. I will really benefit from a full pre-season now and will be ready to go when the new campaign starts.
“Derry City is obviously a club I know a little bit about and I’m well aware of the passion of that support base. I’m really looking forward to doing my part to hopefully bring success to the Brandywell.”
